Late-breaking abstract submission grant

When submitting a late-breaking abstract you are eligible for a reduction GRANT: your registration fee will be reduced by 100€ equivalent to the early registration fee. This applies only when proceeding with your registration after the early bird deadline (14 February) though.

EMIM 2017 Young Investigator Award

The EMIM Young Investigator Award 2017 will be assigned to a young scientist for her/his extraordinary and innovative research presented in the scope of the EMIM 2017. Application for the YIA 2017 must have been done during the first call for EMIM 2017 abstract submission (Deadline 11 January 2017). The YIA final is kindly supported by Siemens - Thanks!

In accordance with the review outcome the three best YIA applicants are invited to present their work only during the final plenary session scheduled for 7 April 2017 in the afternoon.

The three finalists are:

*Béatrice Berthon from Paris - Direct mapping of cardiac electrical activation in an isolated live rat heart using Ultrafast Acoustoelectric Imaging
*Jennifer Poelmans from Leuven - Longitudinal assessment of pulmonary fungal infections in mice by use of bronchoscopic fibered confocal fluorescence microscopy
*Tatjana Opacic from Aachen - Bubble Tracking for the textural and functional vascular characterization of tumors at super resolution


The Young Investigator Award Committee will evaluate and score the three finalists in regards to: quality of science, novelty of work, ability to answer question, and quality of presentatio. The winner will be awarded with the EMIM 2017 YIA award during the awarding and farewell ceremony scheduled right after the respective plenary session at 7 April 2017.

Eligibility criteria

  • younger than 34 at the time of the conference (7th April 2017) and
  • his/her doctoral degree should be less than five years ago or not yet achieved (April 2017)
  • he/she has to submit an abstract for oral presentation and
  • should be the first, main, AND presenting author of the abstract.

Selection and evaluation procedure

The applicants abstract/research was evaluated by independent reviewers during a completely blind reviewing process in regards to

  • quality of science
  • novelty of work
  • consistency of abstract

EMIM 2017 Poster Awards

Particular attention has been paid to the best possible way of the presentation of your posters:

Two poster sessions are scheduled - with no competiitive session in parallel - in order to enhance knowledge exchange between senior and junior researchers, to provide you with the option to put your work up for discussion, and provide the other attendees with the possibility to discuss your findings, guided poster walks related to a certain topic are scheduled. Each poster walk is chaired by two chairpersons and will result in one ESMI Poster Awards 2017 per walk.

The poster awards will be presented during the awarding and closing ceremony scheduled for Friday 7 April 2017 in the afternoon. 

EMIM 2017 Registration Grant

Deadline for late-breaking application is 23 February 2017!

The ESMI is offering free registration grants for the EMIM 2017 in Cologne. These grants are preferably given to younger scientists from developing countries. 

Who shall apply? You are at an early stage of your research carreer and/or from a developing countries. You are eager to join the EMIM in order to learn and put your findings up for discussion but you have difficulties to cover your expenses as it is unlikely that your institute is supporting your participation? Be encouraged to apply!

Please note: The grant is NOT meant as award for excellent science and shall accordingly not be added to your CV in that way!
